Another Patent makes 8 in the portfolio, with 9 close behind...

Transportation does not stop, nor does the need for ever improved technology. The latest patent in the Ricconics portfolio targets material expansion characteristics for eliminating the "bacon" effect of large surfaces over a broad operating temperature range and improves mounting techniques while minimizing cost and material cross section.

Further, the ability to make an "Air Dam System Cartridge" technique allows fleets to minimize the number of skirts needed to outfit their fleet. In the US, the average is 4.7 trailers per one tractor, and many of those trailers are used less frequently. Why purchase and install a dedicated skirt? Use the Ricconics air dam system cartridge (ADSC) and cut costs.

EPA SmartWay Verified Models

The RADIUS 20' and 23' long devices received EPA SmartWay Verification. The designs provide sigificant fuel economy gain without complicated installation. Combined with a rear aerodynamic device and/or wide wheels, RADIUS may help maximize fuel economy to reach SmartWay Elite verification.

The US EPA SmartWay program now allows the use of specific qualified wind tunnels for SmartWay aerodynamic improvement verification. Ricconics tested devices in the fall of 2014 at qualified facility ARC, the Automotive Research Center in Indianapolis, and achieved excellent results! Quadrant Engineer Plastic Products’ TIVAR® ECO UHMW-PE Product of Choice for Ricconics Truck Aerodynamic Solutions

Reading, Pa., March 8, 2012 - Quadrant Engineering Plastic Products' TIVAR®  ECO UHMW-PE  was selected by Ricconics as a key material to produce RADIUS™ advanced aerodynamic trailer side skirts, which are specially designed to create optimal airflow for improved fuel economy in a lighter, smaller, and more effective package.

Quadrant's TIVAR ECO UHMW-PE was chosen for its wear-resistance, impact-resistance and corrosion- resistance all while enabling expansion and contraction required in changing temperature environments that will allow RADIUS owners to cut maintenance costs, reduce energy consumption and extend the life of their equipment.

The impact strength of this lightweight UHMW material allows RADIUS trailer skirts to deflect wind and redirect airflow aerodynamically, which reduces trailer drag and significantly increases fuel economy. This makes a difference in long haul operations as the operating costs continue to climb.

Typical tractor-trailers travel more than 125,000 miles per year - each averaging approximately 21,000 gallons of diesel fuel. In this case, using the RADIUS technology could reduce fuel consumption by more than 1,000 gallons and save almost $4,000 per year.

RADIUS is uniquely positioned to allow fleets and owner-operators and ensure compliance with greenhouse gas emission objectives. Additionally, this green cycle solution is made with TIVAR ECO UHMW-PE.  A recycled grade manufactured by Quadrant EPP in an effort to improve the use of natural resources and environmental sustainability.

Efficiency Upgrades Ordered for Trailers Serving California

Managers of trailer fleets, from the very large to the very small, are trying to figure out how to pay for fuel-efficiency enhancements that will have to be fitted to van trailers serving California, the result of a state air-quality mandate issued in December.

Skirted trailers with new tires could become a common sight in the Golden State.

"It will certainly change the specifications for trailers operating in California and increase the cost of ownership by requiring broad use of aerodynamic features and lowrolling-resistance tires," said Joe Artuso, chief executive officer of GE Trailer Fleet Services.
